Sun Gazing Meditation
Sun gazing is the little known practice of looking at the sun as a form of meditation. It involves looking indirectly at the sun on the horizon for a few minutes within an hour of sunrise or sunset.
Sun gazing is an ancient method of healing that originated in India thousands of years ago--a practice that is found all over the world, particularly in Asia. Ancient Hindu scriptures write that it is the quickest way to charge the body’s cells. Our ancestors (including Socrates) understood the relation between the sun—giver of life—and health. Among other important physiological functions, this practice purportedly activates the pineal gland, also called “third eye”, associated with long life. From the Aztecs to the ancient Egyptians, many ancient cultures revered Sun gazing as an esoteric practice for high-ranking priests and shamans.
With Sun gazing, people report improved health and focus, increased energy levels, reduced need for food, clearer thinking, improved eyesight, increased awareness and intuition, and other benefits.
Mental clutter and toxins begin to be released and the mind-body balance is improved. Sun gazing changes the body energetically from the inside out. People have many different reactions, sensations and experiences with this practice. A blissful euphoric sensation may develop with practice.

Healing by the Sun
The sun is also a powerful source for healing. Our culture's fear of the sun's effects is unfounded. There is more evidence that skin cancer is caused by sunscreen than by sun rays, as skin cancer is virtually unknown in the tropics and among indigenous and tribal communities. Through its energy, the sun provides powerful healing and nutrients to our body.

My Experience with Sun Gazing Meditation
I received the gift of Sun gazing meditation from Sunyogi Umasankar in Nepal, when it was still almost unheard of by the greater public and met with much skepticism. Sun gazing meditation has gained popularity internationally over the past few years. I participated in two Sun gazing meditation workshops at that time, in Nepal and India, and became qualified to teach this technique.
My personal experience with Sun gazing meditation has been more than positive. Within the first few weeks of practicing it, I felt a great sense of powerful strength develop from within. I was full of energy and felt like I could climb mountains while my need for sleep and food was greatly reduced, much to my surprise. I reached a point where I found myself eating (little) only because I thought I should, but not because I really felt like I needed to, but my energy level was higher and clearer than before. Also, until the time I discovered Sun gazing I had struggled with poor eye vision since I was missing almost 2 degrees in my left eye and almost 1 degree in my right eye, to astigmatism. Sun gazing meditation, not only did not damage my eyesight, but even improved it. This type of meditation had a very calming and soothing effect on me. During the time of most intense practice, my psychic abilities were also significantly increased. These are only some of the benefits I have personally experienced. I know other people whose health condition was greatly improved thanks to Sun gazing meditation.
