On The True Meaning of Sustainability
Sustainability is the ability of something (or someone) to sustain itself. The World Commission on Environment and Development defined the concept of "sustainable development" as development “that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”, and at the same time takes into account the needs of the poor in the developing world. However, the concept has proven to be an oxymoron--given the model of development we have been witnessing over the past decades. No "development" under the current system and paradigm can be truly "sustainable".
The world's persisting problems--the conflicts, the alarming degradation of nature and of our health, now even further exacerbated by the modern invisible threats posed by EMF radiation and pollution--are all a testimony to the outright disregard by the existing socio-economic-political system to sustain life. They are a testimony to the fact that lopsided approaches which only take consumerist economic indicators as a measure of "development” and well-being, have proven faulty.
It is not sufficient to only focus on socioeconomic, intellectual, and technological aspects of human development. The inner dimensions of mental, emotional, and spiritual health, as well as character and ethical development along with the expression of one's full potential as a human being, require just as much focus. It is only each one of us individually that can give this focus to ourselves, because clearly the modern globalist system we live in isn't designed to support this--quite the contrary, it is designed to shape us into conformity with a view to perpetuate it.
"Development" should be measured by the degree humankind’s shared aspirations are fulfilled: prosperity and fairness for all, peace, joy, freedom, love, health, abundance, and the promise of safely inhabiting this planet for millennia to come. "Development" takes place when individuals awakens to their unique talent, gift, passion, joy, and responsibility. “Development" can be "sustainable" only if it translates into the integration of a heightened awareness of self, others, the environment, and one's connection to the whole into everyday living, as a lifestyle.
Positive change takes place when individuals become more conscious and empowered, reclaim their responsibility (=ability to respond) and health at all levels, find their joy, and live a compassionate and fearless life. From this state they can positively change their own life and influence others - and ultimately the "collective" - through their living example. The foundation for major social, political, economic, and spiritual change ultimately always rests in the single individual. The widespread corruption, injustice, abuse and inequality we see everywhere are an indication of how deeply we have forgotten--as individuals--our connection to the whole.
My passion is to work with and assist individuals to achieve the deeper understanding, improved health, and expansion necessary to thrive. Thriving individuals are what make for thriving families, communities, and societies.
Join me in catalyzing positive change from the inside-out, for groups and communities to achieve self-reliance, wholesomeness, and sustainability at all levels.
